Bandits abduct five wedding guests in Kogi, shoot one

Bandits on Friday attacked Ogbe in Kogi State, abducting five people and injuring one along the Ogbe–Egbe road, despite ongoing efforts by the United States government to curb banditry and terrorism in Nigeria.
The incident reportedly occurred at the boundary between the Ogbe and Koro communities and involved residents travelling to Egbe to attend the wedding ceremony of an indigene of Ogbe who resides in Egbe.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the victims were on their way to the wedding when they were ambushed by armed men believed to be bandits.
During the attack, the assailants allegedly opened fire on the travellers, shooting one individual, while others attempted to escape.
“One person was shot during the attack and has been rushed to a hospital, while five others were abducted and taken into the bush,” a resident disclosed.
As of the time this report was filed, the identities of both the injured victim and the abducted persons had not been officially confirmed.
The attack has heightened fear among residents of Ogbe, Egbe, and neighbouring communities, who expressed concern over what they described as worsening insecurity along rural roads in the area.
Community members lamented that the Ogbe–Egbe axis has increasingly become unsafe, particularly for people travelling for social engagements or moving between villages.
Residents appealed to security agencies and the Kogi State Government to urgently increase patrols along the road to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among commuters.
They also called on authorities to conduct sustained security operations in nearby forests, where the attackers were believed to have fled after the incident.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) recently announced the arrest of two notorious bandits and kidnapping kingpins linked to violent crimes across Katsina, Zamfara, Niger, and Kwara States. The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrests on Friday.
