The newly appointed Commissioner in Benue State, Professor Timothy Ornguga, has called on the people of the state to rally behind Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia in advancing development initiatives.

Professor Ornguga, a Professor of Law at Benue State University (BSU), made the appeal during a reception organized in his honour.

He assured that he would operate an open-door policy and work diligently to justify the confidence reposed in him by both the Governor and the people of the state.

Expressing gratitude to Governor Alia for deeming him worthy to serve in the cabinet, Ornguga also thanked God for making the appointment possible.

Addressing concerns over petitions that trailed his nomination, he noted that he had moved on and urged his supporters to do the same, stressing that he would serve as Commissioner for all.

“I’m grateful to God for what He has done for me and the good people of Kwande. I promise to do my best and will not disappoint the Governor or my people for the trust reposed in me.

“On the controversy before my confirmation, I deliberately refused to know those behind the petitions. I logged out of Facebook throughout that period and only returned after the Assembly confirmed me. I hold no grudges against anyone.

“All that is in the past. I remain the same person people knew at the university, and that will reflect in my service in government. My doors are open to everyone, and I urge my supporters not to be angry with anyone.”

The Commissioner further encouraged Benue residents to come out en masse to register for their voter cards ahead of the 2027 elections to secure their eligibility to vote.

He also dismissed perceptions that he was not a politician, promising that his political capacity would become evident in the days ahead.
