The Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), has entered into a strategic partnership with a peace-building organisation, Community Security Architecture Dialogue (CSAD), Makurdi, aimed at promoting cordial relationships within the university community, particularly between students and lecturers.

The Vice Chancellor of MOAUM, Professor Timothy Alabar, a former staff of Benue State University (BSU), reached the agreement with CSAD during an advocacy visit by the organisation to the university management.
Professor Alabar commended the organisation for the visit, describing it as the first of its kind since he assumed office as Vice Chancellor.
He stressed that the university’s foremost priority remains academic excellence and discipline, noting that collaboration with a reputable non-governmental organisation like CSAD aligns with his administration’s policy of promoting peace-building, fairness, accountability, and inclusivity among members of the university community.
The Vice Chancellor also assured of the institution’s commitment to working closely with CSAD to sensitise both students and lecturers on the dangers associated with unethical practices, including sex-for-grades and the compulsory writing of research projects for students in exchange for money, among others.
Speaking earlier, the President of CSAD, Comrade Tor Tarkighir, said the visit was to congratulate the Vice Chancellor on his appointment and to seek collaboration with the university management to address alleged victimisation of students by some lecturers who exploit vulnerable students, particularly females.
Represented by the Vice Chairman, Elder Joseph Kwaghdega, Tarkighir lamented that such practices are prevalent in many higher institutions across Nigeria, noting that MOAUM is not exempt, hence the need for awareness campaigns to curb the trend.
The CSAD leadership proposed several measures to the university authorities, including the establishment of an independent external committee to receive complaints, investigate cases, and make recommendations to management.
They also suggested the creation of a dedicated hotline and an online platform for reporting cases, alongside mechanisms to protect victims from further victimisation by lecturers.
Also speaking, the Ter Makurdi, Chief Vincent Aule, represented by the Kindred Head of Wurukum, Chief Ugondo Simon Tov, expressed appreciation to the Vice Chancellor and management for granting them audience. He noted that CSAD is willing to work closely with the university to help achieve its core mandate.
Tov prayed for wisdom for the Vice Chancellor and his team in the discharge of their duties and warned lecturers who exploit female students to desist immediately, stressing the need to uphold quality education and secure the future of students.
