Borno: Five Children Killed as Fence Collapses in Maiduguri

Five children have lost their lives while another sustained injuries following the collapse of a fence in the Bulumkutu area of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, said the tragic occurrence happened at about 8:00 p.

m. on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
According to him, the injured child is currently receiving medical attention, while investigations have been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Daso explained that the police received a distress report through the Divisional Police Officer of Bulumkutu Division concerning a fence that fell on six children.
“Sadly, five of the children, all under the age of 16, died as a result of the incident, while one sustained injuries and is presently being treated in the hospital,” he said.
