A House of Representatives aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Hon.

Maji Johnson Bello, has dismissed reports suggesting the existence of factions within the opposition party.

Hon. Bello insisted that the ADC remains united under a single leadership headed by former Senate President, Sen. David Mark, and the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Speaking with journalists on Tuesday in Abuja, Bello described Mr. Nafiu Bala—who is laying claim to the position of National Chairman of the ADC—as an interloper. According to him, Bala’s actions are part of a script allegedly aimed at destabilising the party.
The lawmaker hopeful stated that Mr. Nafiu Bala voluntarily resigned from the ADC in July 2024 and therefore has no basis to parade himself as the party’s National Chairman.
He stressed that there is no confusion regarding the national leadership of the ADC, noting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially recognises and has published Sen. David Mark as the authentic National Chairman of the party on its website.
“To the best of my knowledge, there is no faction in the ADC; it does not exist. Go to the INEC portal and see whose name is there. Nafiu is playing a script; he is an interloper. He is no longer a member of the party, having resigned in July 2024. Even if he goes to court, he remains an interloper. Sen. David Mark is the only party chairman recognised by INEC,” Bello said.
Hon. Bello, a former National Head of Operations and FCT Coordinator for the Atiku/Obi 2019 and Atiku/Okowa 2023 presidential campaigns, and founder of the non-governmental organisation, Green White Green, said he possesses the requisite credentials and experience to represent the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency if given the mandate in the 2027 general elections.
He promised to initiate laws that would positively transform the lives of residents of the constituency, lamenting that both past and present representatives had failed to adequately serve the people.
Bello also disagreed with calls for the scrapping of constituency allowances, arguing instead that constituency projects should be prioritised through proper oversight.
“Those calling for the abolition of constituency allowance do not understand what it truly represents. Funds meant for constituency projects should be used for water supply, electricity, roads, primary healthcare, and the building and equipping of schools. These projects are for the people, not politicians. To ensure transparency, the National Assembly should establish a committee to monitor how constituency funds are spent,” he added.
