Bridge destroyed by terrorists

Eight persons were feared killed on Monday after a vehicle they were travelling in struck an improvised explosive device (IED) in Niger State.
It was gathered that the explosive was planted by terrorists, who had earlier used a similar device to destroy a bridge along Luma Road in Borgu Local Government Area, linking Luma, Babana, and Agwara communities.

The destroyed bridge served as a vital link for residents, especially those heading to the Babana major border market, which holds every Monday.
Further information revealed that the vehicle, travelling between Nuku and Woro, ran over the IED, triggering an explosion that killed all seven passengers and the driver.
The spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, noting that a clearance operation was ongoing in the area.
“On March 23, 2026, at about 6:30 a.m., a report indicated that earlier at about 2:00 a.m., suspected terrorists operating within the park forest deployed an explosive device and bombed a bridge along Luma Road in Borgu LGA, connecting Luma, Babana, and Agwara communities.
“The bridge was found to have been damaged during the attack by the hoodlums amid ongoing security operations.
“Monitoring continues, while clearance efforts have been intensified,” he said. (The PUNCH)
