CORBON Approves Registration of Artisans, Technicians to Strengthen Building Sector Regulation
By our Correspondent
In line with the duty of builders to manage and supervise workmen and artisans at construction sites, the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) has approved the registration of additional cadres of practitioners to ensure structural efficiency and integrity in the country’s building industry.
Chairman of CORBON, Dr. Samson Opaluwa, made this known during a press briefing in Abuja.
According to Dr. Opaluwa, the initiative is aimed at fostering professional growth, ensuring quality control, and enhancing career development across all levels within Nigeria’s construction sector.
He noted that although about 4,000 builders have been registered since the establishment of the council under Decree 45 of 1989, support personnel and artisans have yet to be formally recognized and integrated into the regulatory framework.

Dr. Opaluwa emphasized that the Council’s move aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET), with a focus on introducing a framework for regulating and certifying all building site practitioners.
He explained that the initiative would not only enhance government data collection and skills management but also result in improved housing delivery in terms of accessibility, safety, and quality for the Nigerian populace.
The CORBON Chairman urged all stakeholders in the construction industry to embrace the new opportunity and leverage it fully for the nation’s economic advancement.
