DICAN Conference to Address Global Security, Disinformation Challenges
By Iyojo Ameh
The Diplomatic Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria (DICAN), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is set to host its maiden International Diplomatic and Security Conference in Abuja.
The high-level event, scheduled to take place at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will focus on Nigeria’s foreign policy direction amidst rising global uncertainties. The conference, according to a statement released by the Chairman of DICAN, is themed: “Nigeria’s 4Ds Foreign Policy Strategy Amidst Global Security Challenges, Strategic Misperceptions, and the Age of Disinformation: The Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media in Shaping National and Global Stability.”
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, is expected to deliver the keynote address, setting the tone for discussions aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s global engagements through the country’s 4Ds Strategy—Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora.
The event is expected to attract high-profile participants including former Nigerian presidents, state governors, lawmakers, security chiefs, heads of intelligence agencies, ambassadors, and members of the diplomatic corps.
A robust panel session will feature key stakeholders and experts such as the Ambassador of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS, the National Security Adviser, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), and Professor Sheriff Ghali of the University of Abuja.
One of the focal points of the conference will be a presentation on Disinformation and Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI). This segment will examine the growing influence of disinformation in global affairs, particularly its impact on Nigeria’s national security, public trust, and international image.
According to DICAN, the conference aims to deepen public understanding of the 4Ds Strategy while emphasizing the role of diplomacy, intelligence, and the media in maintaining both national and global stability.
“This landmark event underscores the critical intersection between diplomacy, national security, and the media in navigating Nigeria’s global engagements,” the statement said.
Scholars, diplomats, media professionals, and policymakers are invited to participate in the conference, which is designed to foster informed dialogue on Nigeria’s evolving foreign policy and strategic security outlook.
