Early-hour blast rattles Kebbi hospital, police confirm no casualties
The Kebbi State Police Command has assured residents of Bagudo and neighbouring communities that the security situation is under control following an early-morning explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo.
The incident, according to the police, occurred around midnight on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, when a loud blast was heard within the hospital premises, triggering panic among residents in the area.
In response, a joint security team made up of personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the military and local vigilance groups was immediately deployed to the scene. The area was promptly cordoned off and secured, while experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit began a thorough assessment.
Police authorities confirmed that no lives were lost in the explosion. Although a building located within the hospital’s staff quarters was damaged, occupants had reportedly vacated the area before the blast and were not injured.
The Commissioner of Police has since ordered the reinforcement of security around the hospital, deploying additional tactical units to ensure public safety and avert any breakdown of law and order.
Meanwhile, the police spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed that a full investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the explosion. He appealed to members of the public to remain calm and to steer clear of the hospital environment to enable security operatives and investigators carry out their duties effectively.
The command assured residents that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
In a related development, a report by The Guardian revealed that residents of Gebbe in Shanga Local Government Area were thrown into panic on Monday following an attack by suspected gunmen. The assailants reportedly stormed the community without warning, firing sporadically and forcing residents to flee to neighbouring villages and nearby bushes.
Confirming the incident, SP Bashir Usman said security operatives had been deployed to the area to assess the situation. He noted that officers were working to ascertain the number of casualties and injuries sustained, adding that a detailed statement would be issued in due course.
