Foiled Coup: Implicated Officers Were Aware of Consequences — CDS

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has stated that the military officers arrested in connection with the foiled coup attempt were fully aware of the consequences of their actions.

Musa said the officers involved “must have made up their minds” before taking steps that led to their arrest, stressing that their actions were deliberate and calculated.
A total of 16 officers, including a brigadier general and a colonel, were apprehended in October 2025. At the time, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) issued a statement on October 4, citing the arrests as a result of “acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations.”
However, on January 26, the DHQ officially confirmed that the officers were linked to a plot aimed at removing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from office.
The revelation has since sparked public concern, as investigations and legal processes surrounding the alleged coup continue.
