By Iyojo Ameh
The 95th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers will take place from December 10 to 12, 2025, at the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Asokoro, Abuja, bringing together Foreign Ministers and senior government officials from across the West African sub-region.
Nigeria’s delegation will be led by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who is expected to join her counterparts in key deliberations aimed at strengthening regional cooperation, advancing economic integration, and addressing peace and security challenges affecting Member States.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the three-day session will provide a platform to review the political, security, and economic landscape of the region while assessing progress made on key ECOWAS programmes and reforms.
High on the agenda are discussions on democratic governance, trade facilitation, institutional restructuring, and coordinated responses to emerging regional threats, including insecurity and unconstitutional changes of government. The Council will also consider administrative and budgetary reports from ECOWAS Committees and institutions.
Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu is expected to use the opportunity to deepen diplomatic engagement with regional partners, strengthen collaborative mechanisms, and reaffirm Nigeria’s leadership role in shaping the direction of ECOWAS policies aimed at fostering peace, stability, and sustainable development.
The meeting will conclude on Friday with the adoption of key decisions and recommendations that will guide the 68th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, scheduled for December 14, 2025.
