Emir Sanusi Fulfills Lifelong Dream with Ph.D Achievement
The 14th Emir of Kano, HRH Sanusi Lamido Aminu Sanusi, embodies resilience and destiny. Like a cat with nine lives, he has consistently risen stronger from setbacks that threatened to derail his journey.
Sanusi’s life reflects perseverance. During his tenure as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, he faced turbulent times but emerged triumphant, earning respect for his determination.
A cosmopolitan and well-educated leader, he has remained a vocal advocate for good governance, firmly emphasizing education as the cornerstone of societal progress. His outspoken critiques of the failures of the elite and political class in northern Nigeria, alongside his push for investment in critical sectors and empowerment of the girl child, have positioned him as a courageous voice for change. His candor, however, came at a price. Sanusi’s insistence on truth and accountability created powerful adversaries, ultimately leading to his dethronement as Emir. Yet providence favored him, paving the way for his eventual reinstatement as Emir of Kano.
Among Sanusi’s lifelong aspirations was earning a Ph.D., a goal delayed by his busy schedule and the upheaval surrounding his removal from office. Rather than harbor bitterness, he redirected his energy toward scholarship. After years of rigorous research and sleepless nights, he successfully defended his thesis.
Recently, at the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), Emir Sanusi was conferred with a Ph.D. for his work titled “Codification of Islamic Family Law as an Instrument of Social Reform: A Case Study Between the Emirate of Kano and Comparison with the Kingdom of Morocco.” The thesis underscores his commitment to social justice and legal reform.
To celebrate, friends, family, and associates joined him at the luxurious Lanesborough Hotel in Central London, where he hosted a dinner. In his remarks, Emir Sanusi expressed deep gratitude to those who supported him through his journey and reaffirmed his mission to restore the dignity and glory of the Kano Emirate while championing positive change for his people.
