Federal Fire Service Pledges Greater Use of Technology, Stronger Coordination as Fire Safety Week Ends

As the Fire Safety Week draws to a close, the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Olumode-Adeyemi, has reaffirmed that the service will embrace technology, improve inter-agency coordination, and invest in strengthening the capabilities of its personnel.

This year’s Fire Safety Week, themed “Building a Culture of Fire Safety Across Nigeria: Overcoming the ‘Not My Portion’ Mentality,” ran from Monday, 17th November to Friday, 21st November, and recorded unprecedented fire safety awareness across states of the Federation and the FCT.

Represented by the Deputy Controller General in charge of Human Resources, Muazu Tambari, the Controller General, Samuel Olumode-Adeyemi, urged Nigerians to adopt a new mindset rooted in vigilance and responsibility.

Reiterating the commitment of the Federal Fire Service to modernising its operations through technology, enhancing personnel welfare, and intensifying nationwide fire prevention campaigns, the CG commended stakeholders for their exceptional commitment to fire safety compliance and consistent collaboration with the service.

“As a Service, we will continue to strengthen training, modernise our operational systems, and expand community outreach. Fire safety is evolving globally, and we must keep pace by embracing technology, improving inter-agency coordination, and investing in the capabilities of our personnel,” he stated.

He added: “Under my leadership, we remain committed to elevating the Federal Fire Service to a higher level of professionalism, responsiveness, and public engagement.”

Speaking further, he praised stakeholders whose proactive engagement, adherence to safety standards, and support for nationwide sensitisation efforts have distinguished them, noting that their contributions reflect true partnership and a shared commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country.

In their goodwill messages, former Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, Dr. Alhassan Yakmut, and the DG of NIGCOMSAT, Mrs. Nkechi, commended firemen for risking their lives to protect citizens and property.

A major highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to deserving stakeholders who demonstrated outstanding compliance with fire safety standards, as well as the investiture of Tuface Idibia as National Fire Safety Ambassador in recognition of his contribution to fire safety awareness.
