The Obidient Movement has announced a nationwide #EndSARS Remembrance Vigil scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, 2026, to honour Nigerians who lost their lives during the 2020 protests against police brutality.

The remembrance programme, themed “Obidients Remember,” will feature candlelight tributes and prayers across communities in Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to the organisers, the event will adopt a decentralised format, allowing support groups and willing community members to organise simple remembrance gatherings within their respective localities.

Participants have been encouraged to wear black, livestream their gatherings and share tributes on social media using the hashtags #EndSARS and #ObidientRemember.

The initiative is aimed at honouring those who lost their lives during the protests, preserving their memory and renewing attention to calls for justice, accountability and respect for citizens’ fundamental rights.

The 2020 #EndSARS protests attracted widespread participation across Nigeria, with demonstrators demanding an end to police brutality and the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The organisers stressed that the planned remembrance activities would be strictly peaceful and non-political, with the focus placed on reflection, honouring the departed and offering prayers.

The October 20 vigil comes five years after the 2021 anniversary of the protests and six years after the demonstrations began in 2020, providing an opportunity for participants to reflect on the events and their lasting significance.
