FRSC Boss Tasks African Countries On Effective Transport System

Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Mallam Shehu Mohammed has called on African countries to collaborate and develop a cost effective transport system that will promote economic growth and cultural integration in the continent.

Mallam Mohammed gave the advice at the ongoing first Congress of the African Union of Transport and Logistics Organization holding in Tangier, Morocco.

The FRSC corps Marshal said African countries must consider Road Safety as a major logistics component of road transportation to ensure safety of lives and property on roads.

He said in Nigeria, the FRSC road safety programs were anchored on a two policy trust of public awareness and enforcement of traffic laws and regulations.

According to him, enforcement of traffic laws and penalizing offenders remain a major detering factor, which has improved safety in the road transportation system in Nigeria.

Speaking on the theme of the Congress “Building Sustainable Logistics Chains For Africa’s Structural Transformation” Mallam Shehu Mohammed tasked participants to come up with workable transport infrastructure that is interconnected to provide a dynamic and sustainable safe mobility for persons and services.

He said to check the alarming percentage of fatalities and injuries, Nigeria has developed the Nigeria Road Safety Strategy, NRSS as a national blue print to galvanize support from both Government and the private sector who are critical stakeholders.

He announced that FRSC is also proposing a dedicated Road Safety Fund to foster the integration of road safety into project planning to improve the road transportation sub sector.

In recognition of the critical role being played by FRSC in the West African sub region, the Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed was honoured with an award by the President of the Africa Union of Transport and Logistics organization!, Mr Mustapha Chaoune.
