FRSC Corps Marshal Warns Officers Against Indiscipline

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mallam Shehu Mohammed, has raised concerns over declining discipline and professionalism across field commands, warning that misconduct and abuse of authority will no longer be tolerated.
Addressing officers and men of the FCT Sector Command in Abuja, the Corps Marshal described the meeting as a deliberate intervention designed to correct operational lapses and restore public confidence in the service.

Represented by Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, the Corps Marshal explained that the recent deployment of senior officers to various commands was a strategic decision prompted by troubling operational reports.
According to him, the postings were not routine administrative exercises but urgent measures aimed at addressing observed trends of indiscipline, weak command and control, unethical practices, extortion, and reckless enforcement behaviour.
He stated that such actions run contrary to the core values of the FRSC and undermine the public trust built over decades.
The Corps Marshal emphasized that every act of unprofessional conduct tarnishes the reputation of thousands of disciplined personnel and makes the Corps’ mandate more difficult to accomplish.
Reiterating the agency’s founding purpose, the FRSC boss reminded personnel that the Corps was established not merely to enforce traffic laws but to save lives and serve Nigerians with integrity. He noted that the authority of the Corps flows directly from public trust, warning that once that trust is compromised, effectiveness is also diminished.

He described the ongoing exercise as corrective rather than punitive, stressing that it is not a witch-hunt but an opportunity for reorientation, renewal, and reinforcement of standards.
Also speaking at the event, the FCT Sector Commander, Mr. Felix Thelma, said discipline is not punishment but protection — safeguarding the reputation of officers, the Corps, and the lives of Nigerians who rely daily on road safety services.
The Sector Commander added that personnel must be firm but fair, authoritative yet humane, enforcing the law without fear or favour.
He further cautioned officers against extortion, harassment, and abuse of authority, describing such acts as illegal and a betrayal of the oath of service.
While assuring that commendable conduct would be rewarded, Mallam Shehu Mohammed maintained that violations would be sanctioned with fairness and firmness. He encouraged young officers to wear the uniform with pride, reminding them that their conduct in public spaces speaks louder than any public relations effort.
