FRSC Vows To Punish Traffic Offenders During Easter Celebration
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to deploy Mobile Courts along selected major routes across the country to enforce compliance and curb traffic violations during the Easter Special Operation.
The Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, disclosed this in Abuja at the flag-off of the eight-day Special Easter Operation. He explained that the initiative is aimed at ensuring swift dispensation of justice and promoting discipline among road users.
Mallam Mohammed stated that the Corps would strengthen enforcement against offences such as speeding, dangerous driving and overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline, use of mobile phones while driving, tyre-related violations, obstruction, as well as the mixing of passengers with goods.
According to him, the nationwide 2026 Easter Special Patrol Operations will run from April 1 to April 8, 2026, with strategic deployment of personnel and operational assets to guarantee safe, smooth, and hitch-free movement during the festive period.
He further revealed that high-risk and busy corridors have been identified for special attention. These include Lagos–Ibadan, Sagamu–Ore–Benin, Abuja–Lokoja, Benin–Auchi–Okene, Kaduna–Zaria–Kano, Ilorin–Mokwa–Birnin Gwari, and Bauchi–Gombe routes. Other key eastern routes include Onitsha–Asaba–Benin, Onitsha–Owerri, and Enugu–Aba–Port Harcourt. Personnel and logistics have been strategically positioned along these routes to improve traffic flow, ensure prompt emergency response, and enhance visibility.
The FRSC boss added that all 37 Sector Commands nationwide have been directed to commence 24-hour patrol, rescue, and traffic management operations. These will be supported with patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, and modern enforcement tools.
He reassured Nigerians of the Corps’ commitment to protecting lives and property on the highways, urging motorists to obey traffic regulations, avoid risky driving habits, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey.
Members of the public were also advised to contact the Corps in case of emergencies through the toll-free number 122.
