FRSC Gets Electric Patrol Bikes as Ododo Deepens Road Safety Drive
By Abah Benjamin Eneojoh, Lokoja
Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making the state one of Nigeria’s safest corridors for motorists by strengthening collaboration with road safety stakeholders and donating 10 electric patrol motorcycles to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to improve its operational efficiency.
Governor Ododo made the announcement at the Government House in Lokoja while receiving the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, and his delegation shortly after he was invested as the Grand Patron of the FRSC Special Marshals. He described Kogi as Nigeria’s gateway linking the North and South, noting that the heavy traffic passing through the state places a huge responsibility on his administration to ensure safer highways, effective traffic management and prompt emergency response.
The governor stressed that road safety is a collective responsibility and called for stronger collaboration among the Federal Government, state governments and other stakeholders to reduce road crashes and safeguard lives. He also announced the elevation of the Senior Special Assistant on Road Safety Matters, Hon. Yusuf Suberu, to the position of Special Adviser in recognition of his dedication, professionalism and contributions to road safety initiatives in Kogi State.
Governor Ododo assured the FRSC that all requests presented by the Corps would receive favourable consideration, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to investing in infrastructure and logistics that enhance public safety. He formally handed over 10 electric patrol motorcycles, saying the equipment would strengthen highway surveillance, improve emergency response and boost the Corps’ operational capacity in protecting road users.
The governor dedicated his investiture as Grand Patron of the FRSC Special Marshals to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the honour reflects the President’s commitment to protecting lives, improving road infrastructure and promoting safer highways nationwide.
Earlier, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, commended Governor Ododo for his consistent support for road safety programmes and appealed to the state government to revive motor parks across Kogi to improve traffic management and eliminate indiscriminate parking. In response, the governor disclosed that the motor park revitalisation initiative is already being implemented and is nearing completion.
The Corps Marshal described the donation of the 10 electric patrol motorcycles as a landmark intervention that would significantly improve the Corps’ operational effectiveness, noting that the motorcycles would enhance road safety operations in Kogi State and contribute to safer highways across the country.
