The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has restricted the movement of no fewer than 850 trucks and articulated vehicles during peak traffic periods over the past three weeks as part of the ongoing Operation Safe Kugbo.
The outgoing FCT FRSC Sector Commander, Mr.

Felix Theman, disclosed this while handing over to the newly deployed Sector Commander, Mr. Tijani Iliyasu. He explained that the measure was introduced to improve traffic management across the territory.
Mr. Theman, who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Corps Marshal at the FRSC Headquarters, noted that the restriction formed part of broader efforts to reduce the frequent road accidents recorded along the affected routes.
He revealed that no accidents have been recorded since the commencement of the special operation.
Reflecting on his eight-month tenure, Mr. Theman attributed the successes achieved to strong collaboration among FRSC personnel and other stakeholders.
He also praised the support of the Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, particularly in providing operational tools such as tow trucks, 23 electric motorbikes, and other logistics. He urged his successor to prioritise public enlightenment campaigns and strict enforcement of traffic regulations.
Mr. Theman further highlighted the importance of the Corps’ partnership with the FCT judiciary, which enabled regular mobile court sittings to address traffic violations, especially among commercial drivers who drive against traffic.
He called on the 19 Unit Commanders across the six Area Councils to continue supporting the new Sector Commander and encouraged Mr. Iliyasu to introduce additional measures to ensure smooth traffic flow along the Lugbe–Airport Expressway and other busy routes in the FCT.
In his remarks, the new Sector Commander, Mr. Tijani Iliyasu, pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor in restoring order and discipline on FCT roads.
He assured that he would collaborate closely with Special Marshals and transport union leaders to enhance road safety and support socio-economic activities within the territory.
Also speaking, the Coordinator of FCT Special Marshals, Mr. John Anga, reaffirmed the unit’s commitment to supporting the FRSC in achieving its objectives.
