Gunmen Attack Travellers in Zamfara, Kidnap Passengers, Torch Vehicles
By our Correspondent
Armed terrorists on Saturday attacked commuters travelling along the Danjibga–Kuncin Kalgo Road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting all passengers and setting two vehicles on fire.
The attackers reportedly barricaded the road before intercepting the vehicles.
A security monitoring platform, Bakatsine, confirmed the incident, describing it as another reminder of the lingering insecurity on key highways across Zamfara State.
The attack came just days after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion along the Gusau–Magami–Dansadau Road claimed at least eight lives. Following that incident, Nigerian security agencies had earlier cleared the Gusau–Magami–Dansadau axis and declared the road safe for motorists.
The clearance was carried out after an emergency joint operation launched in response to the December 27 IED blast on the Magami–Dansadau route, which also resulted in property damage and heightened fear among residents and travellers.
Acting on the directive of the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, specialised Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams were deployed to thoroughly search the highway amid concerns that additional explosives might have been planted along the strategic corridor.
The operation involved police EOD units, military EOD operatives, and members of the Joint Task Force under Operation Fansa-Yamma.
As at the time of filing this report, security personnel were still combing surrounding bushes as part of ongoing efforts to secure the area.
