The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended 46-year-old Obadigbo Emmanuel Anumudu, identified as the prime suspect in the brutal murder and beheading of Mrs. Obianuju Akubi, a 69-year-old woman, at Umueri in Anambra East Local Government Area in July 2024.

In a statement issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence, stormed Aguleri in Anambra East and arrested the suspect, who had been on the run for over a year.

Ikenga explained that upon interrogation, Anumudu confessed to the crime and provided useful information leading to the identification of other gang members involved in the murder and beheading of the elderly woman. “The suspect had been on the run since July 22, 2024, after he gruesomely murdered and beheaded the late Mrs. Obianuju Akubi, aged 69, in Umueri,” he stated.

The PPRO further disclosed that the suspect not only admitted to the killing but also revealed the identities of his accomplices and the location of the victim’s head, which was taken away after the crime.

Ikenga assured that police efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining members of the gang and ensure they face justice, adding that further updates on the investigation will be released in due course.
