“I Went With My Colleagues to Buy Ram for Ileya, Not Knowing My Wife Would Be the Sacrifice That Day” — Abija
Veteran Yoruba actor, Abija, has recounted a heartbreaking experience he described as the saddest moment of his life. In an interview with FEELRIGHTNEWS TV on Friday, August 22, 2025, he revealed how he lost his wife on a festive Sallah day while he was away on a movie shoot.
“My saddest moment in life was on a Sallah day.
We were always excited to shoot movies during Ileya because people would be at home to watch that year. Myself, a woman who has since passed away, and my manager, Dele, went to buy ram for the festival — not knowing that it was my wife I would end up losing that very day,” Abija said with deep emotion. He recalled giving his wife money to prepare food before leaving for the shoot, unaware that it would be their last moment together.
“I gave my wife money to cook before leaving because the car to take us to the village was already waiting. I followed my colleagues to the village for the movie shoot. Before we arrived, a messenger had already come with the sad news of my wife’s death. He told my manager, but no one told me,” he narrated.
According to him, he began noticing unusual conversations among his colleagues, but he was left in the dark. “I just observed that they kept gathering to talk in whispers. I tried to stay happy, but I didn’t understand what was going on. We went ahead with the shoot that day and even slept over,” he explained.
It wasn’t until the following day that he was deceived into returning home under the guise that his wife was sick and needed surgery. “A friend told me we had to go back home because my wife was sick and surgery was needed, and I had to sign some documents. I was angry because my manager had come late, and I thought he should have signed for me. I didn’t know they were only tricking me to return home because my wife was already gone,” he recalled painfully.
The veteran actor admitted the tragedy broke him deeply. “It pains me very, very much. It pains me very, very much,” he repeated in grief.
