The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has inaugurated a Steering Committee on State Police, describing the assignment as crucial to strengthening Nigeria’s internal security architecture.

Speaking at the inauguration in Abuja, the IGP said the committee is expected to review existing policing models, assess community security needs, and recommend an operational framework for state policing that will complement the national system.

He stated that the committee has a four-week timeline to submit its report, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force will continue to remain the primary national law enforcement institution.
The IGP emphasised that the proposed structure is designed to promote synergy rather than create rivalry within the nation’s security framework.

He named Professor Olu Ogunshaki as the Chairman of the committee and charged members to carry out their assignment with diligence and patriotism, noting that their recommendations will shape the future of policing in the country.
