JAMB, WAEC Fix ₦4,000 One-Time O’Level Verification for Admission Seekers
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have announced a new arrangement for the verification of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE/O’Level) results for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Under the new policy, candidates whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB will be required to verify their WAEC results only once through JAMB.
The outcome of the verification will thereafter be made available to the institution where the candidate is seeking admission.
The two examination bodies said candidates are required to pay a one-off fee of ₦4,000 for the verification of their WASSCE O’Level results on the specified platform.
The payment is to be made through the designated verification platform and not through the candidate’s preferred institution.
JAMB and WAEC also clarified that tertiary institutions are expected to use the verified results provided by JAMB for screening, admission processing and other administrative purposes. Candidates will therefore not be required to pay for another verification exercise.
WAEC has authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification with relevant tertiary institutions for the stated purposes. The arrangement is designed to ensure that candidates who successfully verify their results through the JAMB-provisioned Verification Service will not have to repeat the process.
According to the bodies, the initiative will reduce the stress associated with repeated visits to tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, as candidates can begin the verification process from the comfort of their homes or any internet-enabled location.
Candidates are therefore encouraged to take advantage of the improved arrangement by verifying their WASSCE O’Level results once through the JAMB Verification Service, knowing that the verified result will be available for use by the relevant institution.
JAMB and WAEC said the collaboration demonstrates their commitment to putting candidates’ interests first, reducing unnecessary costs and simplifying the admission process while maintaining the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records.
