JUST IN: FG Declares Christmas, New Year Public Holidays
The Federal Government has announced public holidays for the 2025 Christmas and New Year festivities.
According to the declaration, Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, 2025, have been set aside as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day, while Thursday, January 1, 2026, has been declared for the New Year celebration.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
In the statement, the minister urged Nigerians to use the period to reflect on the virtues of love, peace, humility and sacrifice symbolised by the birth of Jesus Christ.
He further called on citizens, regardless of faith or ethnic background, to take advantage of the festive season to pray for peace, enhanced security and national development. Nigerians were also advised to remain law-abiding and security-conscious throughout the celebrations.
The Federal Government, through the minister, wished Nigerians a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
