Kano Assembly Suspends Rano LG Chairman for Three Months
By Our Correspondent
The Kano State House of Assembly has placed the Chairman of Rano Local Government Area, Muhammad Nazir Yau, on a three-month suspension over alleged misconduct, abuse of office, and mismanagement of public funds.
The decision came after councillors from the LGA lodged complaints, leading the House Committee on Public Petition, chaired by Majority Leader Hussaini Lawan Cediyar Yangurasa, to present an interim report during Wednesday’s plenary session.
Lawmakers explained that the suspension would allow for a thorough probe into the allegations. The Assembly also directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to appoint the vice chairman to act in Yau’s place pending the conclusion of the investigation.
The allegations against Yau include causing political unrest among councillors, favouring political allies in distributing government resources, selling government fertiliser above the approved ₦20,000 rate, mismanaging market revenues, illegally selling market stalls, and disrespecting party elders.
At a committee hearing on August 11, Yau denied most of the accusations but admitted to increasing the fertiliser price by ₦20,000.
