Abuja – Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, the lawmaker representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, has urged traders to place greater emphasis on insuring their goods against unexpected disasters, following the recent fire outbreak at Kugbo Market that led to heavy losses.

Obika made the appeal while paying a condolence visit to traders affected by the incident, alongside a delegation of party leaders. He stressed the importance of forward-looking governance and personal business protection, calling on Area Council Chairmen to strengthen fire prevention strategies and ensure the provision of functional firefighting facilities in markets.
The legislator assured the traders of his unwavering support and commitment to advocating recovery initiatives, as he conducted an on-the-spot evaluation of the extent of the damage. He sympathized with the victims, describing the incident as a major blow to their means of livelihood.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Kugbo Market Traders Association expressed appreciation to Obika for his swift response and show of solidarity, commending his dedication to the welfare of his constituents. The visit also featured representatives from different political parties, reflecting a shared concern for the affected community.
Obika underscored the need for joint efforts between government institutions and traders themselves, highlighting insurance as a key safeguard. He pledged to liaise with relevant authorities to ensure market safety is treated as a priority, with a view to creating safer trading environments.
The incident, he noted, underscores the necessity for traders to embrace sustainable measures to protect their businesses.
