Manchester United have officially parted ways with head coach Rúben Amorim after a period of escalating internal discord, capped by his reaction to the club’s 1–1 Premier League draw against Leeds United.
Renowned football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday that the decision was reached earlier in the day, bringing Amorim’s short tenure at Old Trafford to a sudden conclusion.
Sources close to the club disclosed that relations between Amorim and the hierarchy had significantly worsened in recent weeks. The strain was reportedly fuelled by disagreements over transfer policies and a communication breakdown between the Portuguese coach and sporting director Jason Wilcox.
United currently occupy sixth place on the Premier League table, a standing the club’s leadership believes does not align with its ambitions and expectations.
In a statement confirming the move, Manchester United said:
“With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of achieving the highest possible Premier League finish.
“The club would like to thank Rúben for his contribution and wishes him well for the future.”
The club is expected to name an interim manager in the coming days while it reviews its long-term managerial plans.
