Nwoko tells Regina Daniels: Negative drug test does not confirm recovery

Senator Ned Nwoko has rejected the negative drug test result recently presented by his estranged wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, insisting that it merely indicates a short period of abstinence and does not amount to proof of full recovery.

In a statement shared on his official X account and issued by his media team on Thursday, the lawmaker maintained that genuine recovery and accountability cannot be determined by a single drug test or social media declarations.
According to him, true healing requires sustained effort and continuous professional support.
Nwoko questioned the circumstances surrounding the latest test, comparing it with earlier assessments conducted by two independent and reputable medical centres in Nigeria and South Africa. He explained that the previous evaluations, which reportedly showed evidence of drug and alcohol use, were professionally carried out, properly documented, and would be tendered and defended in court, with representatives of the testing centres expected to testify.
“Presenting a later negative result as evidence that no prior use ever occurred is misleading and disingenuous,” the statement read. “At best, it only reflects abstinence over a period of time. It neither invalidates earlier medical reports nor cancels out the concerns that led to intervention in the first place.”
The senator’s response followed an emotional video posted by Daniels earlier in the week, in which she denied being a drug addict, revealed that a recent comprehensive screening showed no traces of illegal substances, and warned that she would take legal action against those spreading the allegations.
Although Daniels admitted to limited past use of ecstasy, also known as Molly, she insisted she had never abused harder drugs. Nwoko, however, dismissed attempts to minimise the seriousness of the substance, stressing that changing its name does not alter its potential dangers.
He further noted that a court had earlier granted him custody of their children and dismissed claims of human rights abuse against him. According to Nwoko, the court order also directed Daniels to undergo supervised therapy, a step he said he had privately encouraged before the issue became public.
Nwoko’s media team emphasised that sobriety and healing are continuous processes and cannot be established by a single test taken “at a time of one’s choosing,” especially in the midst of a widely publicised marital dispute that began in October 2025, involving allegations of domestic violence and counterclaims linked to substance use.
