At least 24 residents have been killed after gunmen attacked Kirchinga village in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The assailants reportedly stormed the community on Tuesday, setting homes, shops, and places of worship on fire. Several residents were injured, and others remain missing.

Amnesty International condemned the attack, calling it “horrifying.” While Boko Haram has not officially claimed responsibility, the pattern of the assault and eyewitness accounts point to the involvement of the terrorist group.
The human rights organisation reported that bodies were scattered across the village and that buildings were still smouldering hours after the attack. Many residents are still unaccounted for. Amnesty International urged authorities to intensify protection efforts and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Reacting to the tragedy, the Adamawa State Police Command confirmed that Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris visited the affected communities for an on-the-spot assessment. According to Police Public Relations Officer Suleiman Nguroje, the commissioner led senior officers to review security deployments and strengthen collaboration with other security agencies, particularly the military.
During the visit, the police chief met with the Emir of Madagali, the Local Government Chairman, and community members from Shuawari Kirchinga ward. He offered condolences to residents and reassured them of the command’s commitment to restoring peace and increasing security presence.
The police spokesperson noted that the exact casualty figures have not been officially confirmed and promised further updates as investigations progress.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri vowed that justice would be served for the victims, stressing that his administration would not succumb to fear.
This attack follows another incident in which suspected Boko Haram insurgents killed three people in the Garaha district of Hong Local Government Area, heightening security concerns in parts of Adamawa State.
