Nasarawa Assembly passes Education Trust Fund Bill into Law

Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has passed into law A Bill for a Law to Make Provision for the Establishment of Nasarawa State Education Development Trust Fund and for other Matters Connected Therewith.

Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau announced the passage of the bill into law during the House proceedings Tuesday in Lafia.

Dr. Jatau said that the bill, if finally assented to would ensure training, retraining of teachers and for the overall development of the education sector.

The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the resolution of the House to Gov. Abdullahi Sule for further necessary action.

Earlier, Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara, the Majority Leader of the House moved a motion for the bill to scale third reading.

Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba, the Minority Leader of the House seconded the motion where the House unanimously passed the bill into law

Also, the House has adopted the report of the House Standing Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Food Security on A Bill for a Law to Repeal Nasarawa Agricultural Development Programme Edit NO: 13 of 1997 and to Establish Nasarawa State Agricultural Development Programme and Other Matters Connected Thereto.

The Speaker slated tomorrow, Wednesday June 4, 2025 for the third reading of the bill, after deliberation on the bill during the House Proceedings today in Lafia.

The Speaker said that the NADP bill, if finally assented to would boost food production, generate revenue and improve on the standard of living of the people of the State.

Furthermore, the House has adopted the report of the House Standing Committee on Works and Transport on A Bill for a Law to Establish Nasarawa State Inland Waterways Regulation Agency to regulate the carriage of persons and goods across all waters and rivers within Nasarawa State and other matters connected thereto.

The Speaker said that the bill, if finally assented to, would regulate the carriage of persons and goods across all waters and rivers in the State.

Earlier, Hon. Suleiman Azara, the Majority Leader of the House moved a motion for the adoption of the committee’s report.

Hon. Luka Zhekaba, the Minority Leader of the House seconded the motion.

The House unanimously adopted the committee’s report.
