NIDCOM Chair Applauds Nigerian Star’s Induction into Canadian Football Hall of Fame

The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Nigerian-born athlete Jovan Olafioye on his induction into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, Class of 2025. She described the feat as a remarkable achievement the Commission is proud to celebrate.
In a statement signed by Gabriel Odu of the Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Dabiri-Erewa noted that Olafioye enjoyed a stellar career in the Canadian Football League (CFL) that spanned nearly a decade.
During his eight seasons with the BC Lions, Olafioye won a Grey Cup championship in 2011, earned multiple All-Star selections, and clinched the prestigious Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman award in 2012. His consistency and leadership on the offensive line made him one of the most respected figures in the league.
“This honor is not only a personal milestone for Olafioye but also a source of pride for Nigeria and the Nigerian community worldwide,” Dabiri-Erewa stated. “His induction reflects the growing impact of the Nigerian diaspora across various fields, particularly international sports.”
She further emphasized that Olafioye’s success highlights the resilience, talent, and determination of Nigerians excelling globally.
“His story will serve as an inspiration to young Nigerians and aspiring athletes both at home and abroad, showing that hard work and perseverance can lead to recognition at the highest levels of professional sports,” the NIDCOM boss added.
