Reports have surfaced indicating that a Nigerian national has been killed while fighting on the battlefield for Russian forces against Ukraine.
The development was confirmed on Monday by investigative journalist Jaafar Jaafar and security analyst Zagazola Makama. In a post shared online, Makama described the incident as tragic, revealing that the deceased had left his family in Northern Nigeria to enlist with the Russian army.

“Sad. He left his family in Northern Nigeria to join Russia’s army to fight Ukraine. He was unfortunately killed on the battlefield,” Makama wrote.
Images circulating on social media are said to show the deceased alongside his children, further underscoring the human cost of the conflict.
The war, now in its fourth year since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and displaced millions of people. Russia has continued to face manpower challenges and has increasingly relied on foreign recruits, private military contractors, and allied militias to sustain its military campaign.
Ukraine, on the other hand, continues to receive substantial military and financial backing from Western allies, including the United States and the European Union. (Vanguard)
