The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has expressed heartfelt appreciation to members of the union for their overwhelming participation and support during the 2025 Press Week celebration.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Comrade Ike commended the solidarity, unity, and professionalism demonstrated by members throughout the week-long activities, describing their turnout as the driving force behind the success of the event.

“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all NUJ FCT members who turned out en masse for the 2025 Press Week. Your enthusiasm, dedication, and unity have been the driving force behind the success of this event,” she said.

The NUJ FCT Chair also gave special commendation to members of the executive council for their unwavering commitment and strategic leadership, which, she noted, helped steer the Press Week to excellence.

Equally recognized was the Press Week Planning Committee, led by Rt. Evelyn Onyilo, whose meticulous coordination and attention to detail ensured that all aspects of the event were flawlessly executed.

“I sincerely commend my EXCO members for their tireless efforts and also appreciate the Press Week Committee led by Rt. Evelyn Onyilo for their passion and coordination,” she added.

Comrade Ike paid tribute to former chairmen of the Council for their continued support and guidance, acknowledging the strong foundations they laid which continue to inspire current leadership. She also lauded chapel leaders—chairmen and secretaries—for their successful mobilization of members at the grassroots level, which contributed to the spirited and robust participation witnessed during the week.

Veteran journalists were not left out, as the Chairman expressed profound gratitude for their years of hard work, mentorship, and enduring commitment to the growth of the union.

Media houses and online platforms that amplified the activities of the 2025 Press Week through their reportage were also appreciated for their vital role in promoting the union’s vision and values.

“Together, your collective contributions underscore the resilience, unity, and passion of our union. Let us build on this momentum as we continue to uphold the principles of press freedom, professionalism, and the welfare of all journalists,” she said.

Comrade Ike concluded with a rallying call for continued unity and professionalism among journalists in the FCT, as she reaffirmed her commitment to the progress of the union.
