The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced the passing of veteran journalist and media icon, Mr. Dan Agbese, describing his death as a significant loss to the Nigerian media landscape and the nation at large.

In a statement signed by NUJ President, Alhassan Yahya, the union said Agbese embodied courage, professionalism, and integrity throughout his decades-long career.

As a co-founder of Newswatch magazine, he was widely regarded as one of the most principled voices in Nigerian journalism, championing ethical reporting and national accountability.

The NUJ recalled that in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the media profession, its National Secretariat honoured Agbese with the “Media Icon” award last year at an event in Lagos.

The union extended its condolences to his family, colleagues, and the wider media community, praying for the repose of his soul and stating that his legacy will continue to inspire generations of journalists.
