Ododo Commissions Rebuilt Ibaji Secretariat, Promises Road Infrastructure
Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has commissioned the reconstructed Old Ibaji Local Government Secretariat in Onyedega, Ibaji Local Government Area, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to grassroots development.
Represented by his deputy, Joel Salifu, the governor described the project as a clear demonstration of efforts to bring governance closer to the people.
He praised the Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Comfort Ojoma Nwuchiola Egwaba, for facilitating the reconstruction, noting that her leadership has translated into tangible development for her constituents.
Ododo said the renovated secretariat goes beyond being a physical structure, describing it as a symbol of progress and effective governance. He added that the facility would enhance service delivery, provide a conducive working environment for staff, and improve accessibility of government services in the area.
Addressing infrastructure concerns, the governor acknowledged the poor state of roads in Ibaji and assured residents that the issue is being addressed. According to him, necessary measurements for the road project have been completed, with construction expected to commence soon.
He thanked the people of Ibaji for their continued support and urged them to maintain the facility to ensure its longevity.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of Ibaji LGA, Emmanuel Onuche Ugeh, commended the Deputy Speaker for reconstructing the secretariat, which he said had been destroyed by fire. He noted that the project has revived administrative activities at the grassroots level.
Ugeh also appealed to the state government to prioritise road construction, stressing that poor road conditions continue to hinder development and economic activities in the area.
In her remarks, Egwaba explained that the secretariat, originally built in 2000, was razed by fire caused by destructive elements, leaving the council without a functional administrative structure. She said the reconstruction was driven by the need to improve working conditions and restore governance at the local level.
She appreciated the governor for the support given to execute the project and pledged to continue delivering impactful projects to her constituents.
As part of the visit, the Deputy Governor paid a traditional homage to the Ejeh of Ibaji, Chief John Egwemi, Chairman of the Ibaji Traditional Council.
The event was attended by top government officials, including the State Auditor-General, Alhaji Y.Y. Okala; the Chief Whip of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Asema Baba; APC stakeholders, and residents of Ibaji.
