Officials Respond After Roaming Elephant Kills Farmer in Ogun State

A tragic incident unfolded in Itasin-Imobi, Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, as a wandering elephant reportedly strayed from a government-reserved forest and fatally attacked a farmer, Musa Kalamu.

According to a report by Vanguard, cited by The Citypost, the elephant stormed Mr.

Kalamu’s farm on Monday, where it brutally attacked and killed him.

Local residents disclosed that the animal has been a persistent threat in the area for over four years, frequently destroying crops and fishing equipment. “This elephant keeps coming into our community to destroy our crops, damage our fishing nets, and now, it has taken a life,” a community member lamented.

In response to growing fears, residents of Itasin-Imobi are appealing to the Ogun State Government and relevant agencies to intervene before more lives are lost.

The Commissioner for Forestry, Taiwo Oludotun, confirmed the incident, stating, “Yes, we are aware, and we are already on our way to the community.”
