Ombugadu Advocates Unity, Peace in Nasarawa Honors Andoma of Doma at 21 Years on the Throne

The 2019/2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate, His Excellency Rt. Hon. David Emmanuel Ombugadu, has called for unity, peace, and togetherness among citizens of Nasarawa State, regardless of political affiliation, religion, or ethnicity, in order to foster development.

Dr. Ombugadu made the appeal over the weekend in Doma, where he was a Special Guest of Honour at the finals of the Andoma’s Unity/Peace Cup Football Tournament. He stressed that without peace, unity, and harmony, meaningful development in the state would remain elusive.

Represented by His Excellency Rt. Hon. Yahaya Usman Ohinoyi, Ombugadu commended the organizers of the tournament, describing it as a powerful tool for promoting peace and unity. He explained that the event, held in honour of the Andoma of Doma, further highlights the monarch’s commitment to sustaining peace for which Doma Local Government is widely respected.

Flanked by Engr. Tanko Kigbu, Hon. Istifanus Abaku, Hon. Stella Innocent Oboshi, Alhaji Hussaini Mailafiya, and the organizers, Ombugadu presented the first-place trophy and cash prize to the captain of Ene Boys, the winning team.

He congratulated the Andoma of Doma, HRH Alhaji Ahmadu Aliyu Ogah Onawo (OON), for steering the affairs of his people with wisdom and dignity throughout his 21 years on the throne. Ombugadu assured the monarch, the council of chiefs, and the entire Doma community of his continued support and solidarity.

Speaking on behalf of the royal father, Alhaji Yakubu Ibrahim (Ogbole Gi-Doma) expressed gratitude to Hon. Ombugadu for honouring the invitation and supporting the success of the event. He prayed for God’s blessings upon him, declaring: “Hon. David Emmanuel Ombugadu PhD, the Andoma is delighted, Doma community is grateful, and DOFA is most appreciative of your honour and support. With your contributions, we are stronger together.”

Also speaking, former two-term State Legislator and PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate in the 2023 general elections, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Yahaya Usman Ohinoyi, lauded the Doma Traditional Council under the leadership of HRH Ahmadu Aliyu Ogah Onawo (OON). He praised the monarch for his long-lasting reign and wished him good health, peace, and prosperity.

It will be recalled that the Doma Football Association (DOFA) introduced the tournament to celebrate the Andoma’s 21st anniversary on the throne of his forefathers.

Sixteen teams competed from the group stage through the knockout rounds, culminating in a thrilling final between AYD FC and Ene Boys. Ene Boys secured a lone goal victory in the second half through a penalty, after a foul by an AYD FC defender, following a goalless first half.

The Central Primary School playground, venue of the finals, was filled to capacity on Saturday, 6th September 2025, with football enthusiasts, fans, and dignitaries who turned out to celebrate the monarch’s reign.

Amidst jubilation, Alhaji Yakubu Ibrahim (Ogbole Gi-Doma), Alhaji Ibrahim Atukpa Adeka (Ogeyi Gi-Doma), and Alhaji Hussaini Mailafiya Ka’Isan-Ediya (PDP Chairman, Doma LGA) presented second, third, and consolation prizes to deserving teams. Amb. Jacob Oboro Osama, PDP Youth Leader in Nasarawa State, decorated the second and third-place players with medals.
