Bandits have invaded the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun, in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, shooting the pastor and abducting several worshippers.

The Tuesday evening attack triggered panic across the community, which shares a border with Kogi State.

A video of the incident seen by our reporter showed worshippers gathered for a service when sudden gunfire erupted.

While some members of the congregation hid behind chairs, the gunmen, who initially fired from outside, eventually forced their way into the church.

One of the attackers was captured on video carrying bags left behind by fleeing worshippers, while others were seen entering through the main gate. At least two of the gunmen wore masks, and one was spotted using a flashlight.

The assault reportedly occurred during a programme ahead of the church’s scheduled night vigil.

A resident who identified himself as Mr. Ayo told Daily Trust that the bandits stormed the premises and opened fire on the worshippers. According to him, the pastor and another member were shot dead, while several others were taken away.

Another resident, who preferred anonymity, said the attackers struck shortly after 6pm, throwing the community into confusion. He added that local vigilantes swiftly engaged the gunmen in an effort to limit casualties.
