Peter Eze Inaugurates FCC Works Committee, Assures Strict Enforcement of Federal Character Principle
By Jude Obayi
The Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) Committee on Works, Transport and Aviation, Hon. Peter Eze, has reaffirmed his strong commitment to the full enforcement of the Federal Character principle, assuring Nigerians that the committee will diligently and courageously fulfill its constitutional responsibilities.
Hon. Eze made the pledge on Tuesday during the committee’s inaugural meeting at the FCC Headquarters in Abuja. The committee is among the 25 operational committees recently approved during the Commission’s weekly plenary session presided over by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, as part of ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the Commission for greater efficiency.
Addressing members drawn from the six geopolitical zones, Eze explained that the committee’s primary mandate is to ensure strict compliance with the laws establishing the FCC, particularly across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) supervised by the Federal Ministries of Works, Transport, and Aviation. He reiterated that the Federal Character principle is a constitutional directive intended to prevent the domination of public institutions by any particular region or group.
Quoting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who described the Commission as the “conscience of the nation,” Eze stated that the committee clearly understands the weight of its responsibility. He affirmed that members are committed to meeting the President’s expectations and aligning their oversight functions with the Renewed Hope Agenda by promoting fairness, equity, and national unity.
“The laws establishing the Federal Character Commission are clear,” Eze said. “Our responsibility goes beyond ceremony. We are here to ensure full implementation and compliance. Every Nigerian, regardless of tribe, gender, or region, deserves equal opportunity in public service.”
He added that effective enforcement of the Commission’s Act and mandate would promote unity, deepen patriotism, and strengthen citizens’ sense of belonging. According to him, when fairness and justice are evident in federal appointments and recruitments, public trust and loyalty are naturally enhanced.
Reaffirming the Executive Chairman’s resolve to revitalize the Commission, Eze assured that the committee would carry out its duties with transparency, accountability, and steadfast commitment to constitutional order, further solidifying the FCC’s role as a guardian of equity and national balance.
