Peter Onyekachi hails Tinubu’s infrastructure drive, calls for unity and patriotism.

Senator representing Ebonyi North and Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Peter Onyekachi, has urged current leaders to redouble their efforts toward ensuring the socio-economic sustainability of Nigerians.
The senator made the appeal while commenting on the current efforts and foresight of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in reshaping the country’s economic mechanisms to propel growth and even development despite the security challenges facing the country.
He said the President is not only constructing new roads aimed at expanding the economic corridor of the nation, considering Nigeria’s growing population, but is also fixing existing old roads and other infrastructure that will yield development.
The Deputy Chief Whip cited the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway as an example, saying it is not just about constructing the road but doing so in a manner and quality that no successive president would have to consider the road for maintenance because it is being constructed with concrete.
He also said similar projects include the Abuja-Lokoja Road in Kogi State.
“Surely, something is happening in a very durable manner,” he said, adding that the Shagamu-Ore Road is also in progress.
Senator Peter strongly believes that for the people of the Southeast, who never believed in the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in the country, President Tinubu, through his exemplary leadership, has given the people of the region a sense of belonging and oneness by appointing their son, Senator David Umahi, as Minister of Works.
He assured that the minister remains committed to delivering his mandate accurately without any bias, citing the Onitsha-Enugu Road dual carriageway, one section of which has been completed with concrete pavement.
He also noted that one lane of the Enugu-Aba Road has been completed with concrete pavement, while the Aba-Port Harcourt Road has also been completed with concrete pavement.
He placed particular emphasis on the model of the road projects, transferring from Calabar through Ebonyi, Benue, Kogi and Nasarawa, and connecting to Abuja.
According to him, this will go a long way in opening another commercial route not just for the people of the Southeast, but also for the South-South, North-Central, North-West and other parts of the country.
Senator Peter, however, advised parents to teach their children the history of how past leaders behaved.
“We need to see some of the past leaders that were very, very patriotic. People like Zik of Africa, he was from the East, but raised in the North.
“So, we need to imbibe that spirit of oneness, unity, patriotism, the spirit of putting Nigeria first, irrespective of religion, culture, ethnicity and tribalism for the country to move forward.”
