The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Bishop Prof. Stephen Adegbite, has reminded intending pilgrims that pilgrimage is a sacred spiritual exercise, not a jamboree.

This was contained in a statement issued by Celestine Toruka, Deputy Director and Head of Media and Public Relations of the Commission.

Bishop Adegbite made the remarks on 15th September 2025 while bidding farewell to Christian pilgrims departing for Israel and Jordan under the NCPC’s delayed Easter Pilgrimage exercise, held at the Pilgrims Terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

“What you are going for is a spiritual journey, not a jamboree,” he stressed, urging the pilgrims to refrain from turning the trip into a shopping spree and instead focus on its true essence—spiritual renewal. He also advised them to maintain good behavior and conduct themselves in an orderly manner throughout their stay in the Holy Land.

The NCPC boss further cautioned them to be mindful of their meals while abroad, encouraging them to eat with etiquette and decorum. He emphasized that the pilgrimage should provide a new and transformative experience, assuring them of witnessing God’s glory and returning with powerful testimonies.

Bishop Adegbite reaffirmed that President Bola Tinubu is supportive of both Christian and Muslim pilgrimages, stressing that the President is not a religious bigot. He urged the pilgrims to continue praying for President Tinubu, asking God to strengthen him to finish well in his service to the nation. He also called for prayers for the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as she prepares to mark her 65th birthday on 21st September 2025.
