The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on Power Investigation has assured Nigerians that the persistent problem of power shortages in the country will soon be resolved.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Ibrahim Almustapha Aliyu, representing Wurno/Raba Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, gave the assurance while briefing newsmen on the committee’s investigation into the power sector in Nigeria.

Ibrahim Almustapha explained that since the constitution of the committee, its members had gone through records and documents submitted before the Ad Hoc Committee.

He added that the committee had carefully examined the documents, established facts, followed up on the findings and embarked on physical assessments of some of the identified issues across the country, covering locations from Lagos to Benin, Gombe and several other places.

The chairman further disclosed that the committee subsequently organised a stakeholders’ retreat and a public hearing in Lagos, where critical stakeholders in the industry were engaged and far-reaching decisions were reached.

Hon. Ibrahim also said the committee proceeded with a forensic audit of the financial aspects of the sector, its policies and other issues relating to legal matters affecting Nigeria’s power industry.

According to him, these processes had provided the committee with ample opportunity to do a commendable job, expressing confidence that its findings and recommendations would positively reshape the electricity sector.

He, however, commended the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the power sector and his determination to address the challenges facing the electricity industry.

He noted that the minister had demonstrated equal commitment since assuming office, showing competence by travelling around to assess the situation firsthand.

Hon. Almustapha stressed that with these two positive processes from the executive and the committee’s findings, the country would achieve its desired objective of sustainable power supply in Nigeria.

“We believe if our findings and recommendations will be resolved and implemented immediately, Nigerians will begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.

Almustapha assured that, with the extension of time granted to it, the committee would be able to complete its assignment and soon present its final report to the House for further legislative action.
