Reps Condemn MACBAN Chairman’s Killing, Seek Justice

The House of Representatives has condemned the killing of the Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Ardo Mohammad, and called for enhanced security measures to prevent possible reprisal attacks.

The House also urged the Inspector General of Police to expedite investigations into the incident and ensure that those responsible are identified and prosecuted.
The resolutions followed the adoption of a motion sponsored by the member representing Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency, Blessing Onuh. She stated that Mohammad and several of his associates were killed on June 26 along the Okudu-Kachingi Road in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
While leading the debate, Onuh noted that communities in Otukpo/Ohimini, which are predominantly farming settlements, have continued to experience deadly attacks arising from the recurring farmers-herders conflict. She warned that the latest killings had heightened tension in the area and increased fears of reprisal attacks on innocent residents.

Following the adoption of the motion, the Green Chamber urged the Federal Government to deploy additional security personnel to the area and establish a Forward Operating Base in Okudu community to forestall further attacks.
