Rescue of Abducted Teenage Girls: Ndume Applauds Nigerian Army, Renews Call for Adequate Funding and Better Remuneration
Former Senate Leader and Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has praised the Nigerian Army for the successful operation that led to the rescue of 12 teenage girls abducted by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Mussa District of Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The victims, aged between 15 and 20, were kidnapped last Sunday while harvesting crops on their family farmlands.
According to a statement by the Nigerian Army, the girls were freed on Saturday after a swift, intelligence-driven mission carried out by troops of Operation HADIN KAI in southern Borno. They have since been evacuated to a secure location where they are receiving full medical attention.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army commended the bravery and timely intervention of the military personnel in Borno, whose efforts ensured the safe recovery of the teenagers.
Ndume also lauded the resilience and patriotism of troops serving in the North East, acknowledging their continued commitment despite the numerous challenges they face.
He said:
“Over the weekend, men of the Nigerian Army in theatre operations in Borno State achieved another landmark feat with the successful rescue of all 12 abducted teenagers who had been held captive.
“This remarkable operation once again demonstrates professionalism and selflessness.
“I will continue to appeal to the sense of patriotism of our soldiers to remain resolute in defeating the evil forces driven by their misguided quest to subdue the rest of us.”
The lawmaker reiterated his appeal for the Federal Government to prioritise adequate funding for the military and to review their remuneration to boost morale and enhance operational effectiveness.
