Sowore Gets N200m Bail, Defence Begins July 6
Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has granted the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and online publisher, Omoyele Sowore, bail in the sum of N200 million with two sureties.
Sowore is standing trial over alleged defamation and cybercrime charges filed against him by the Federal Government.
In his ruling, Justice Umar directed that one of the sureties must be a traditional ruler from Sowore’s community, while the other must own landed property in Abuja, subject to verification by the prosecution.
The court also ordered Sowore to deposit his international passport with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court.
Justice Umar further released the defendant to his lawyers and adjourned the case until July 6, 2026, for the commencement of his defence.
