Tears Flow as Senate Press Corps Member Abbanobi-Eku Loses Sister, Funeral Rites Begin January 12

The death of Mrs. Catherine Onoh (née Abbanobi-Eku), sister of Senate Press Corps (SPC) member Abbanobi-Eku Onyeka, has thrown her family, friends, associates, and community into deep mourning, with tributes continuing to pour in following her passing at the age of 55.
Mrs. Onoh, a devoted Catholic and highly respected woman leader, was widely known for her unwavering commitment to education and social welfare in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Born in 1970, the late Catherine, fondly called Kate, was raised in the Abbanobi-Eku family of Akwuoba Ogbunka, Orumba South, Anambra State. From an early age, she demonstrated a strong passion for community service and social responsibility.
She was the junior sister of Abbanobi-Eku Onyeka, a member of the Senate Press Corps, who described her as kind-hearted and compassionate, noting that she consistently placed the needs of others above her own.
As both a politician and a teacher, Mrs. Onoh made a lasting impact on her community, inspiring many through her dedication, integrity, and zeal for public service.
Her marriage into the Onoh family of Umuchukwu further strengthened her resolve to contribute meaningfully to community development, as she continued to work selflessly for the progress and wellbeing of her people.
Beyond her immediate family, Catherine Onoh’s influence was felt widely through her educational initiatives and numerous community service efforts, leaving behind a legacy of service and commitment.
Her funeral rites are scheduled to commence on January 12, 2026, at her father’s residence in Akwuoba Ogbunka and her husband’s home in Umuchukwu, both located in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
She is survived by her brother, sister, son, sister-in-law, grandchildren, and daughter-in-law, all of whom mourn her loss while celebrating a life devoted to service.
As preparations begin for her final rites, members of the community continue to honour her memory, drawing inspiration from the impactful life she lived.
