Tension in Kwara State Communities as Security Operatives Confront Bandits in Ifelodun Local Government Area
There was palpable tension across parts of Kwara State following an attempt by security operatives to repel suspected terrorists who attacked the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses said the armed men engaged security personnel, including the Nigerian Army, who were working in collaboration with forest guards and other local security outfits.
Local security sources disclosed that the exchange of gunfire lasted for about one hour and occurred around 8:30 p.m., close to the Ifelodun Local Government Secretariat headquarters.
The coordinated efforts of the security operatives were said to have effectively foiled the attack.
Authorities confirmed that there were no verified cases of abduction or casualties resulting from the incident.
The development came just hours after suspected bandits reportedly attacked Kakafu community, a remote settlement in Patigi Local Government Area, where four persons were allegedly abducted.
According to reports, the attackers kidnapped four residents — a man, a woman, and her two daughters — during the early morning raid which occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, throwing the community into panic.
Sources said the assailants fired sporadically into the air upon arrival, causing residents to flee for safety.
