Tinubu Seeks Swift Approval of NDDC 2026 Budget
President Bola Tinubu has requested the Senate’s approval of the 2026 Budget Proposal of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Tinubu’s request was contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and read during plenary in Abuja.
Tinubu said the 2026 NDDC budget was prepared in line with the provisions of Section 121 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, as well as relevant provisions of the law establishing the commission.
He said the budget proposal was developed around the NDDC’s revenue and expenditure priorities and aligned with the fiscal and development policies of the Federal Government and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the proposal also considered the 2024–2026 Economic Recovery Plan and key assumptions underpinning the Federal Government’s 2026 Appropriation Act.
Tinubu said the NDDC had prioritised youth empowerment, energy and power supply, education, industrial and enterprise development, healthcare, security, and increased agricultural productivity under the proposed budget.
The President said the initiatives were aimed at improving living conditions and lifting a significant number of Nigerians out of poverty in the Niger Delta region.
“I look forward to the timely passage of the 2026 Statutory Budget Proposal of the Niger Delta Development Commission by the Senate,” Tinubu said.
Akpabio thereafter referred the budget proposal to the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission for further legislative input and to return it in four weeks.
