The wife of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation, has empowered 500 women in Nasarawa State with grants of N50,000 each to support and grow their businesses.

The initiative, aimed at assisting less privileged women to start or strengthen their businesses and better cater for their families, was launched in Masaka, Nasarawa State.

Speaking during the distribution of the grants, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented by the wife of the Nasarawa Deputy Governor, Tosin Akabe, explained that the beneficiaries were carefully selected from the 13 Local Government Areas of the state. She noted that the Women Economic Empowerment Programme, under the Renewed Hope Initiative of the current administration, was made possible through the collaboration with the Tony Elumelu Foundation.

According to her, the programme seeks to reduce the hardship faced by vulnerable women across the country.

“This Economic Empowerment Programme is about supporting the entrepreneurial spirit of our women—traders and small-scale business owners—who wake up each day to provide for their families, educate their children, and uplift their communities.

“Let me emphasise that this is not a loan. It is a grant and a seed of renewed hope to help you recapitalise your existing businesses. I firmly believe that when you empower a woman, you empower a household, a community, and indeed, a nation,” she said.

She went on to acknowledge the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s donation of N1 billion to the Renewed Hope Initiative, which will directly support 18,500 women nationwide. As part of the programme, 500 women from each of the 36 states and the FCT are set to receive N50,000 each to boost their small businesses.

Senator Tinubu also commended the Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, for his administration’s support for women and praised the state’s First Lady, Silifat Abdullahi-Sule, for her consistent guidance to women across the 13 LGAs.

“I am delighted to present the sum of N50,000 each to the 500 beneficiaries at this event. I deeply appreciate the Tony Elumelu Foundation for this generous support, which I hope will inspire many others across the nation,” she added.

In her remarks, the Nasarawa State First Lady, Silifat Abdullahi-Sule, lauded Senator Oluremi Tinubu and the Elumelu Foundation for initiating the empowerment programme. She urged the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds to justify the confidence reposed in them.
